¿Qué diferencia hay entre biodegradable y compostable?

What is the difference between biodegradable and compostable?

It is often common to not be clear about the difference between biodegradable and compostable, but don't worry at this moment we will tell you what these differences are.

When we say that something is degradable we mean that it breaks down, so if we add the word bio, it means that it breaks down in contact with the environment. So we can say that if a disposable is biodegradable this indicates that it falls apart when it comes into contact with the environment. However, this does not mean that it is also compostable.

So what is compostable?

Let's start with the similarities, compostable disposables also dissolve upon contact with the environment. However, the main differences are; Its biodegradation time is shorter, since it can biodegrade in a time of 60 to 120 days in industrial compost, and also when it comes into contact with the environment it is naturally reintegrated into the earth by serving as compost or nutrient in the birth of a new tree or plant.

This means that being biodegradable is not enough, we need to consume compostable disposable products but it is not enough to simply avoid damage to the planet, we must additionally seek its well-being, providing solutions that benefit it.

I invite you to watch our most recent video on Instagram TV, where we talk about these differences with practical examples.

Habits like this and separating trash are small changes for us, but a big step for the planet.

You know, the next time you go to buy disposable products, make sure they are compostable.

Choose to take care of the planet, choose compostable.
